We’re Changing the Face of Memory Care

Trio Memory Care at Thrive at Montvale—customized care for what matters most

Thrive at Montvale’s Trio Memory Care community specializes in providing exceptional care and support for our residents living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Our revolutionary Memory Care neighborhood focuses on a dynamic partnership between three key players — you, your loved one, and our Thrive team. Our approach is to craft a truly personalized journey for each of our residents, empowering them to feel purposeful and enjoy life each and every day.

We understand that making the decision to move a loved one to a memory neighborhood can be overwhelming. Our expert team is here to guide you, ensuring the best outcome for your loved one and for you.

When is it time for Memory Care?

Recognizing when your loved one may need more assistance than what’s available at home is an important step in their care journey. It involves understanding various indicators that signal a potential need for more advanced support and attention.

  • Safety: Dementia-proofing the home is becoming more difficult as your loved one begins wandering, confusing night and day, struggling to use appliances safely, setting the thermostat extremely hot or cold, and in general, losing their judgment to make safe choices. They may also get lost more frequently when leaving the house, and/or locking the keys in the car or house.
  • Health Issues: Your loved one exhibits distressing behaviors, problems with incontinence, decreasing mobility, inexplicable weight loss or gain, more frequently makes medication errors, or forgets to bathe. It’s also important to consider your loved one’s emotional state and whether staying at home is in their best interest.

Ask Yourself

  • Is your loved one depressed or isolated?
  • Do they have enough social stimulation?
  • Are they exposed to activities to strengthen cognitive functioning?
  • Do caregivers know how to appropriately respond to the changing brain?
  • Is your loved one’s life as rich and full as it could be, despite their illness?

If you answered yes to these questions, it’s probably time for Memory Care.

Thrive at Montvale’s Trio Memory Care team members receive our own specialized training

Training for our team goes beyond providing support for daily living tasks; it includes a deeper understanding of the changing brain, how to care for the specific needs of those with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, techniques for managing distressing behaviors, and effective communication strategies.

At Thrive at Montvale, our Trio Memory Care team members are trained in a specialized approach focused on person-centered care, which prioritizes our resident’s preferences, needs, and values, tailoring support and services to promote their well-being and autonomy.

  • Positive Approach to Care® (PAC) empowers our team members to do things with our residents instead of to our residents – creating a supportive relationship that increases positive care outcomes.
  • Positive Physical Approach™ (PPA), a multi-step method used to approach and connect with our residents living with dementia, resulting in a respectful connection of mutual understanding and comfort.
  • Hand-under-Hand® (HUH), an approach that utilizes the remaining muscle memory of our residents to offer comfort and initiate activity – enabling team members to better assist with activities of daily living.

Our organization is inspired by Teepa Snow and the Positive Approach to Care® methods and dementia education. While inspired, any knowledge or skills we offer are only representative of our organization, independent of Positive Approach to Care®.
